I work at a secure/classified area or customer site that will not allow me to use my activity tracker. What should I do?

Due to the diverse work environments of Lockheed Martin employees and the highly sensitive nature of many secure and classified sites, Lockheed Martin is unable to provide a one-size-fits-all solution regarding the use of the Virgin Pulse activity tracker at every location. Both the GoZone and Max activity trackers and the Sync software provided by Virgin Pulse have been tested and approved by LM Corporate Information Security (CIS), the LM Desktop Council, and IT representatives from each of the Business Areas. However, all employees should understand that the use of the activity trackers at secure and/or classified sites is contingent upon individual site, Business Area and/or customer requirements and approval.

Being physically active requires individual commitment. Given the various worksite restrictions that employees may face, it is ultimately the responsibility of each individual to take action and put forth effort wherever necessary to incorporate physical activity into their day, both inside and outside of the workplace. It is not uncommon for an employee working a sedentary desk job who is able to wear their activity tracker during the workday to only accumulate a minimal number of steps while at work. In order to achieve the recommended 7,000 steps in a day, this employee would need to make special efforts such as walking during their lunch break, parking further away or being physically active before and/or after work. The same scenario would be applicable to those employees who are not able to use their activity tracker while working in their secure or classified area. In addition, employees assigned to manufacturing and production positions may find greater or lesser opportunity to be physically active during the workday depending on the tasks they perform.

Aside from using an activity tracker, there are many opportunities to earn points through the Virgin Pulse website, such as self-entering activities into the Activity Journal, self-entering biometrics measurements, and participating in challenges, special Virgin Pulse promotions and other Lockheed Martin-sponsored events. When participating in personal challenges, it is recommended that the organizer make the competition based on Activity points rather than steps so that Activity Journal entries will be counted. By creating a personal challenge for the first time, bonus points can be earned. These and many other actions contribute to total points and the progression through the program levels. A full list of ways to earn points is available on the Virgin Pulse website.
